This time of year people tend to doze off a bit waiting for the holiday season to taper off. Others are just dealing with family issues. How are you handling the current market conditions as a small business? For years, I have toiled with why people just stop working come November. Last year I decided to do something WEIRD. I think people would refer to me as WEIRD because I do not conform to the same strategies most do.
My previous business as you all know was in web development and streaming media. That business hasĀ been sold off however, I noticed that there would be dead periods where I would get zero business. I would make cold calls and appointments and most people would tell me: “We probably won’t do anything until the start of the new year.” I just accepted it an went on. Then one day, I thought to ask the question: “Why?” To my amazement the prospect (or rather suspect) had no idea. It was a pre-programmed answer meaning: “I have no idea what I am doing and I am too tired and lazy to figure it out so I will push you off til the new year when nothing has changed but now I have to do something about it.”
I was astonished! In an earlier article I talked about the value of prescreening. Boy’s and Girl’s this is a great tool for prescreening! You need to use this in conjunction with the other tools I teach you. If you have someone who procrastinates like this then its possible they will procrastinate to pay you as well. This in turn makes you late with your vendors and what not making you look like the bad guy! It’s just not worth it. Sometimes it’s better to move on.
The real question here is what are YOU doing? Are you watching the news? Are you listening how things are so bad right now? My dad used to say that you are either part of the problem or part of the solution. Which one are you? What steps are you taking to get your butt off the couch and sell? If you truely have a good product and business plan you should have no problem navigating around this mess on main street as well as wall street.
